Niger has closed it's border with Benin and in retaliation, Benin has refused to allow oil to flow from land locked Niger to ports in Benin. Niger were hoping to increase oil production and export for the first time through the new Chinese built pipeline running through Benin. The dispute started after the 2023 military coup in Niger. Several neighbours in Western Africa imposed sanctions to pressure the military to hand back power to the government.
